A Usual Day

Many of you have asked me what a usual day consists of in the classroom and at work. Instead of writing a long paragraph about it, I wanted to just outline it for you.

1. The Schedule
I have a set schedule, for all of my classes, that is laid out at the beginning of the semester. This thing tells me what grades I am teaching and at what times. Simple as that.

My schedule for this semester: 5th grade on Monday and Tuesday, 3rd grade on Wednesday, and 6th grade on Thursday and Friday.

2. The Plan
I meet with the co-teacher I have for whatever class is coming the next day. For example, if it's Tuesday, I meet with my 3rd grade co-teacher to talk about the lesson for the next day. She tells me what she wants to teach, what I should teach, and then I may need to find an activity to replace a bad one in the book. This is the standard for all my classes.

3. Finding Replacement Activities
If I have to replace an activity from the book, I simply go to google, type in the name of the lesson we are on (ex:Whose Boat is This? waygook) and add waygook. Google then sends me to the section of Waygook.org that has pages of activities that fellow teachers have constructed for that lesson.

4. Teach the same lesson 5 - 7 times.

I also eat lunch at 12:20 everyday, may or may not teach the teachers, and leave at 4:50.
